Little Lover Mine

Do you regret how much you gave to me?
When my heart was cracked and empty,
you used yours to fill the spaces.
Each half stitch another link between us.

When I left, did that confuse you?

You call more than I want you to,
and I wonder if you realize you sewed yourself to me,
not the other way around.
You laid anchor while I continued to sail,
you stopped to take in the view while I continued to search.

I know you miss me, I can feel it.
I see it in the lonely texts at 1am
and the pet names I don’t want.

But I am gone,
a feather carried on the back of raindrops,
and I want you to feel the same.

I want you to soar, not sink
like someone who forgot how to breathe,
or why.
