Maybe

✸

Maybe we were not meant to be.
Maybe there was a mix up,
We were supposed to meet the wrong people.
We were on the path set by fate,
But made a wrong turn
Down an alley, unknown.

Maybe we are the lucky ones.
Satellites to a star that shouldn’t exist.
Mystical patterns that the universe contrived,

Maybe we’re soul mates.

Maybe we were meant to meet the wrong people.

I like to think that the Fates have a wager with the world
On how long it takes for us to break.
How long it takes us to get back on track.
There might be a flaw in this grand design, though.
A chink in the armor.

Maybe we met the wrong people.

There had to have been a mix up,
When destiny was bringing us to heel.

Now that you’re gone,
Maybe we weren’t as lucky as we thought.
