The Huntress of the Flame, Jadis, scours both the Heavens and the Hells for answers to her purpose: find the doorway to the Red Flame Root. She is not afraid to fight or kill any of the demons and angels who stand in her way, and the powerful artifact on her neck, the Maelstrom Gem, provides her with powers that many of her foes cannot even begin to guess at. But choosing to fulfill her mission is more complicated than it seems at first glance. As she forms relationships, has illuminating adventures, and learns the truth about the magic she wields, deciding what is right becomes a question that is difficult to answer.
